Things to Avoid Doing During Live Poker
In a live poker game, a player can meet new friends and can play against strangers. Despite the fact that the players of one poker table have not met each other before, they can still play poker in a relatively congenial and even cheerful atmosphere. But this situation could change in a snap if one or more of the players keep on making mistakes that could have been avoided if these players did a little homework about live poker games.
Of all the mistakes that a player can make during a live poker game, here are four of the most irritating ones. When one player does one of them, the pleasant atmosphere at the poker table will transform into a hostile one. Thus, the new poker player who intends to join a live poker game for the first time should avoid these four major mistakes.
- Splashing the pot
- String bets
- Revealing card information
- Delaying the game
The poker player should never splash the pot. A player splashes the pot when he throws chips or money directly into the pot. When he does this, his opponents will not be sure if he has thrown in the exact amount of the bet. There is a chance that he placed less than what he is supposed to place.
To remove such doubts, the dealer will have to carefully count all the money in the pot. Obviously, such a process will delay the poker game. And since the players are used to the relatively fast pace of poker, they will be irritated by the delay. And they all know who the culprit was – the poker player who splashed the pot.
The usual procedure in placing money or bets is to place the chips or money directly in front of the player within the peripheral vision of the dealer. The dealer will then handle the money and give whatever change is due.
The poker player should not make string bets. A string bet happens when the player calls a bet and then gets some chips from his pile in order to make a raise. What the player should do is to place all the chips that he will use for a raise at once.
The poker player should never reveal information about the card he is holding and the cards that he has discarded. Such information can tip the scales for some players and this may not be a good thing. Thus, when one player reveals his cards to another, all the other at the poker table must also see the cards.
And last, the poker player should never delay the game. Poker games are delayed when the player does not pay attention and not aware that it is already his turn to act. Therefore, the poker player must be attentive and alert at all times during the live poker game.
